YAG Laser Surgery

Following cataract surgery, some patients notice cloudy vision returning over time. This common occurrence is a natural haze on the lens capsule that we can easily clear using a gentle laser right in our office. The procedure is safe, painless, and focused on restoring the sharp vision you deserve.

The Benefits of YAG Laser Surgery

•

Sharper, Clearer Vision: Effectively removes the cloudy haze to restore the crisp sight you enjoyed immediately after your original cataract surgery.

•

Quick In-Office Procedure: The treatment typically takes just a few minutes and is performed right here in our comfortable Dayton office.

Little to No Discomfort: We use numbing drops to ensure the process is gentle, with most patients reporting no sensation during the treatment.

•

Fast Recovery: You can typically return to your normal daily activities almost immediately, with many noticing vision improvements within hours.

•

Long-Lasting Results: Once the cloudy capsule is opened, it stays open. This is a one-time procedure designed to provide permanent clarity.

Your Guide to a Comfortable Visit

1. Getting Ready for Your Treatment

Upon arriving at our Dayton clinic, you will be greeted by our staff. We apply relaxing numbing drops and a dilating solution to prepare your eye. Since this is a non-invasive session, you do not need to fast, and there are never any needles involved.

2. What Happens During the Laser Session

You will simply rest your chin on a steadying device, much like a standard eye exam. Dr. Mihok uses a precise laser to clear the haze in just 2 to 5 minutes. You might notice some light flashes or soft clicking, but the process is completely painless.

3. Your Recovery and Heading Home

Dilation may cause temporary blurriness, but many patients see better right away. While we do not specifically request that you have a driver, please know that most of our patients feel perfectly confident and safe driving themselves home afterward. You can jump right back into your day, and we will check in on your progress shortly.

If you have any concerns regarding your visit, please reach out to our team at (937) 433-0454. We look forward to helping you regain the vibrant sight you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this procedure needed?

Months or years after cataract surgery, the natural capsule holding your lens can become cloudy. The YAG laser gently clears this cloudiness to restore the bright, clear vision you had right after your surgery.

Does the procedure hurt?

Not at all. We use numbing drops to ensure you stay comfortable throughout. You won’t feel the laser, though you might see flashes or hear a clicking sound as it works.

How long does it take?

The laser treatment itself only takes about 5 minutes. You'll spend a little more time with us for check-in and to let your dilating drops take effect, but the entire visit is quite brief.

What vision changes should I expect?

Most patients notice clearer vision within just a few hours. You may see some tiny 'floaters' immediately after the procedure, but these usually settle and disappear within a few days.

Can I drive myself home?

A driver is not typically required, as most patients feel comfortable driving themselves home. However, if you would feel more at ease having someone else navigate for you, feel free to arrange a ride.

Are there risks or side effects?

Side effects are rare. The most common are temporary floaters or a brief increase in eye pressure. We monitor your pressure after the treatment and provide care to ensure a safe recovery.

How long do the results last?

The results are permanent. Once the cloudy capsule is opened with the YAG laser, it does not grow back. This is typically a once-in-a-lifetime procedure for each eye.

When should I call the office?

Please call us if you experience a sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, a persistent shadow in your vision, or significant eye pain. We are always here to address your concerns.
